The Gift of Daphne Lau Into Our Lives

  • Been having some issues with this wordpress theme after the update hence the late post of Daphne’s birth. Anyhow, it’s better late than never as the saying goes eh.  The positive outcome of this situation is that I can now pen down more indepth on what has been happening since last Monday.

We checked into HUKM last Monday (15th June) as per the doctor’s advise and took the private room since it was only cost slightly more. We had to endure over 48hours of waiting as the contractions were not coming as frequent as we thought. On Tuesday early morning, the doctor performed another induction in hope to speed up the process but nothing much happened. Thankfully my mom and grandma came down from Penang to assist us throughout this process.

    Us At Hospital

On Wednesday morning though, Angie felt a stable frequency of contractions and the doctor then arranged for her to be brought down into the labor room downstairs. Another doctor came by to perform epidural and Angie was prepping herself as many of her friends shared with her that the insertion of epidural is extremely painful. Apparently it isn’t as bad as we thought so to those to be mothers out there, have no fear. After that we finally settled down at the labor room at about noon and I was given a spouse pass. I was walking between the room and the nurse’s counter to check on her contraction chart which remain unchanged for almost 4hours. In that 4 hours, I’ve seen about 5 other expecting mothers delivered their respective beautiful and noisy babies.

Finally at 5pm the doctor came in to share with us the situation which it seems that our progress has been way too slow for her liking and her concern was for the baby. So she offered us two options which is to decide on performing caesarean immediately or wait for another 4 hours. If the situation does not improve after those 4 hours, she would have to perform the caesarean anyways. So after a short discussion, we told the doctor to go ahead with the caesarean section for the safety of the baby.

At this stage I was a little stressed out with silly and worrying thoughts running through my mind. While the wheeled her into the operation theatre, I quickly went to change into proper hospital attire so I can be with her. I was told to wait at the sofa while they get her ready and that few minutes seemed like eternity for me.

30mins old Daphne LauThe nurse finally called me in and upon entering, I was directed to seat next to Angie. Now comes the scary part as the doctor operated on her. I could feel everytime she pushed and pulled with such force although Angie said she doesn’t feel any pain due to the epidural. Before long, we could hear the cries of our little Daphne and this very moment simply can’t be put down into words. After the nurses cleaned Daphne, they presented her to us for verification purposes while placing identification tags on Daphne and Angie. The entire process took about 50 mins but I still feels like several hours to me.

I was then told to leave the operation theatre while the doctors finish up and I practically ran to find Daphne near the nurse’s station. I found her all wrapped up nicely with her lovely eyes wide opened staring at me. Moments like these are truly priceless and I couldn’t stop taking pictures (with the nurse’s permission of course) of her. To be fathers, remember to never use your camera’s flash here. So on the 17th of June, Daphne Lau was born at 5.59pm to us.

We stayed for another 2 days as Angie recuperates. During this time we kept Daphne with us as much as possible. The room was slightly cold in the evening and morning due to the centralized air conditioning, so we reluctantly placed her in the nursery to let her sleep.

Daphne and her great grandmotherSo as I am writing this, Daphne is now a week old and has been quite a good girl except for a little pissing incident this afternoon. We are truly blessed everything went well and without any complications. Her days now is filled with so much love and care not only from us but also from her grandmother and great grandmother who is staying with us.

We would like to thank all of our friends for their support, well wishes and much appreciated gifts. I will keep our photo gallery updated with new pictures of Daphne.
