Car Repossesion Hoax In KL
-
A very dear friend of mine who is facing some financial problems was confronted by 2 large sized Indian guys at a popular shopping mall in Shah Alam yesterday late afternoon. They told him they were there to repossessed his car due to late payments as instructed by CIMB Bank. They blocked his car at the parking lot which made him unable to move his car. This friend of mine has defaulted on his car repayments for nearly 3 months and have received a letter of intent from CIMB bank which gave him till 7th May to settle the arrears.
My friend asked the 2 guys for some documentations but they said they left it at the office but nonetheless they MUST possessed his car. They suggested to him to pay them RM 500.00 to let him leave and pretended they never found him. My friend mentioned he refused since they could not provide any official documentation but they threatened to call in the tow truck.
After more than 2 hours of haggling, my friend negotiated and paid them RM 350.00 to get them off his back. Bear in mind this money isn’t going to CIMB bank but those 2 fellow’s pocket. He then quickly went back home and called me. I went over to his place to pick him up for dinner while he explained the day’s event to me. He said although they didn’t have the official documents, they knew a lot of intimate details of his car loan and that was why he decided to pay them the money.
Earlier today he called me after contacting CIMB Bank and apparently they told him that his loan grace period is still in effect and no repossession instructions have been made on his car yet. So he shared with them the story and it would seem the infomation has been leaked out internally within CIMB Bank employees. He made a police report but in all honestly there isn’t much the police can do especially after giving him the run around and wasted 6 hours of his time at the police station.
So the moral of the story is to ensure you ask for an official documentation if this case arise and try your best to drive directly to a police station to further clarify the matter. Times are hard folks… try not to make it even harder than it already is.
