Our young Malaysian football team at the SEA Games made us all proud by winning the Gold medal and ended our long 20 years wait by beating Vietnam (thanks guys for indicating my typo) 1-0. Watching the match at the mamak brought out the feeling of togetherness and patriotism in every single person irregardless of background and race. The 1Malaysia spirit was really evident this evening more than ever for as long as I can remember.
Perhaps it is fate that tomorrow is a holiday thus a perfect time for every Malaysian to enjoy and celebrate this win and probably most coveted gold medal. Although the goal may be fortunate as it came via an own-goal, witnessing these young group fighting every inch of the field and pressing the Myanmar players whenever they are in possession of the ball is heartwarming indeed. It is about blinking time we see the hunger and determination which generally our athletes are lacking in many sports we participate in.
Congratulations to the coach K. Rajagopal, the team members and everyone involved in the team for showing us that Malaysian football is on the way up. I now look towards the future with great hope and pray this win will spur our other contingent to strive for excellence in their respective sports.
MALAYSIA BOLEH!!!
